Frequently asked questions about winter stays (FAQ)

When can I stay for the winter?

From November to the end of March. The minimum stay is one month, and you are welcome to stay for several months or the whole winter.

What is included in the monthly rate?

Internet, electricity, hot water, bed linen and towels are included.

How does it work with bed linen and towels?

You wash and change your own bed linen and towels during your stay. Our laundry service is available at an additional charge.

Are the rates per accommodation or per person?

The rates are per accommodation for up to 2 people.

How are the houses heated in winter?

We provide electric radiators free of charge during the winter months. One of the two Surf Lodges also has a pellet stove, while the other has a wood-burning stove.

Can I work remotely from the camp?

Yes. Stable 100 Mbps fibre internet is available throughout the Surfcamp – reliable enough for video calls. You will also find various suitable places to work, including outdoor spaces and our cosy fireplace lounge.

What is open at the camp in winter?

You can use the Surfcamp’s shared areas in winter too: the bar, fireplace lounge and communal kitchen, provided the main house has not been booked exclusively by a group. This can happen over Christmas and New Year, for example.

The pool is also filled and available for use at any time. Bicycles are available for guests to explore the area. Mountain bike tours can be booked in winter too. Surf lessons are available on request at short notice, as they depend on wave conditions.

We live at the Surfcamp all year round and are here to help during your stay. The nearby town of Lourinhã offers various cultural activities. We also enjoy doing things together with our guests and are happy to share tips on what to see and do.

Will I need a car during my stay?

Having your own car is highly recommended. Public transport is limited, and without a car you will have less flexibility, especially in bad weather. A car is also useful for shopping.

Are pets allowed?

You are welcome to bring your pets, provided you cover the cost of any damage they cause.

Are there any additional costs?

Additional charges only apply if you use our laundry facilities or laundry service: the washing machine and tumble dryer each cost €5 per use. Our laundry service costs approximately €7 per kilogram. If needed, you will also need to buy your own pellets and firewood for the stove or fireplace.

How do booking, payment and cancellation work?

Our standard terms and conditions apply to bookings, just as they do for short stays. If you stay for several months, you do not have to pay the full amount at once: payment is due at the beginning of each month of your stay.
